Question 1

Should I get this or the AR4500 inverter?

Accepted Answer

If the room is used daily (e.g. a bedroom every night), the AR4500 inverter will pay for itself in lower running costs. If it's a spare room or study used occasionally, the AR3000 is fine.

Question 2

What does DuraFin Plus actually do?

Accepted Answer

It's an anti-corrosion coating on the outdoor unit's fins. In Cape Town's coastal air it slows the salt corrosion that eventually blocks and kills outdoor coils — a common failure on cheaper units.

Question 3

Does the HD Filter need replacing?

Accepted Answer

No. It's a washable mesh filter — pop the front panel, rinse it under a tap, let it dry and slot it back in. We recommend doing it once a month in summer.

Question 4

How does Good sleep mode work?

Accepted Answer

It runs the unit at a gentler curve over an 8-hour cycle so the room doesn't overcool in the early hours. Set it when you go to bed and it ramps back to normal before wake-up.

Question 5

Is the display always on?

Accepted Answer

No — it's a hidden display. It only lights up briefly when you change a setting on the remote, then goes dark. Good for bedrooms where a glowing panel is annoying.

Question 6

Does it heat as well?

Accepted Answer

No, the AR3000 Non-Inverter is cooling only. If you need heating, look at the Samsung AR4500 inverter or the LG Art Cool heat pump.
